Barcelona for Retirees, Great Food & Fantastic Architecture
Where to Eat In Barcelona
There is so much good food in Barcelona it is hard to have a bad meal. As always, I only provide first hand dining information. Below are the places my wife and I actually had a meal and can recommend.
Asian Ways has a few locations is Barcelona, this one is in The Gothic Quarter. We were looking to eat someplace else, but the waitlist was way too long. Asian Ways looked nice and was not busy, the reviews were good so we changed plans. The food was very good and it became busy here quickly also. If you are looking for good Asian food including noodle dishes and dumplings it is worth a stop.
Carrer de Julià Portet, 6, 08002 Barcelona, Spain in The Gothic Quarter
Sensi Tapas Bistro was a great dinner find. Sensi has a casual and fun atmosphere and really good tapas. Everything we tried we enjoyed. Recommended!
Carrer del Regomir, 4, 08002 Barcelona, Spain in The Gothic Quarter
Tosca Tapas was a good casual stop for some tapas mid day. It had above average food and a nice atmosphere.
Located at Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt, 8, 08003 in La Ribera
Another great find was Viana Barcelona. The restaurant has small and large plates, great wine and a wonderful atmosphere. All the food was excellent and the service very good. Highly recommended. Located at Carrer dels Escudellers, 24, 08002 Barcelona in The Gothic Quarter
Pastisseria Escribà has a few locations in the city. One is conveniently near Mercado de La Boqueria on Las Ramblas where we purchased several pastries to enjoy on the balcony of our apartment. All were excellent! Recommended!
Located at La Rambla, 83, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
Restaurante Zero Nove Cinque is a small hidden pizza restaurant. We were looking for something different our last night in Barcelona and pizza is always a good option! This is one of those places that you may second guess, but we really enjoyed this restaurant and pizza. Both the owner and waiter were from Sicily and very friendly. Worth a try if in the area.
Located at Carrer de Jaume Giralt, 5, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
Bar La Plata Barcelona in operation for about 70 years is a very small Tapas Bar serving an equally small but traditional menu. Anthony Bourdain stopped here, so it can get busy. We were lucky during Chrismas (an a Covid lull in 2021) that we got right in. While seating is limited the food was good and definitely worth a fun quick stop.
Located on Carrer de la Mercè, 28, 08002 Barcelona, Spain in The Gothic Quarter
Ziryab Restaurant was one of our favorite meals in Barcelona! Well worth the stop for good tapas with a bit of a twist. Ziryab is a Fusion Tapas Bar incorporating flavors of the Mediterranean area to Spanish Tapas. Turkish or Moroccan influences were definitely evident. Highly recommended, good wine also!
Located at Carrer de Grunyí, 5, 08003, Barcelona, Spain in the El Born District
Milk Barcelona has kind of a funky interior serving breakfast and Tapas. We tried the tapas and thought everything was very good. Our waiter was very talkative and interesting in a good way. Milk Barcelona is located in The Gothic Quarter towards the waterfront and worth a stop if in the area.
Located at Carrer d’en Gignàs, 21, 08002
Not Every Place was Good!
Luigi Ristorante – Via Laietana is an Italian restaurant. Having just been in Bologna and Tuscany, we wanted to have more Italian food so we tried Luigi Ristorante. The baked provolone and salad appetizers were very good, but the main plates were lackluster. You can do better especially for the price. NOT recommended. Via Laietana, 41, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
TAPA TAPA Barcelona was below average! It is a chain, it was late, we were tired and just wanted a place to drop in before returning to the apartment for a snack. Overpriced for barely average food. NOT recommended. Various locations.
