Travel Checklist

This is the Grumpy Retiree’s Travel Checklist. Don’t forget to do something before you leave for your trip or worse forget your passport or underwear! It’s good practice to use a checklist for any trip. Modify this Travel Checklist for your specific needs. Don’t be grumpy when you forget something because you didn’t listen!

Before you go (Downloadable list below)

Passport (with at least 6 months left before expiration and 2 or more blank pages)

Visa (if needed) License (Real ID for flying!) International Driver’s License

Photocopy/Electronic copy of Passport, License, Visa

Travel Maps/Apps/Guidebook Download Maps/Guides etc. before leaving

Inform Credit Card Companies/Bank (ATM Card) of Travel

Household needs:

  • Stop mail Turn off water
  • Heat and/or AC Locks/Doors/Secure Outside
  • Lights Plants (Water etc.)

What to take:

Money (Usually minimal amounts as I can get more anywhere at an ATM)

Prescription Medicine/Pills First Aid Supplies/Antacid/Sunscreen/Bug Spray (minimal amounts/buy as needed)

Itinerary including flights and hotels, tickets & vouchers, tours etc. (on phone and/or hard copy)

Check Luggage Tags for Accuracy

Wallet Keys Credit/ATM Cards Watch Purse/Bag Pen(s)

Clothing & related (Seasonal dependent)

  • Pants Long Short
  • Socks and underwear
  • Belt(s) Hat(s)
  • Shoes Sneakers Dress Shoes Casual Hiking
  • Coats Raingear Gloves Sweaters Scarves
  • Glasses Sunglasses
  • Bathing Suit

Toiletries etc.: Shampoo Toothpaste/brush Shaving Needs Comb Lotions & Potions

Laundry Related: Detergent Laundry Bag Plastic Bag(s)

Electronics

  • Phone/Tablet/Laptop Chargers USB cables Overseas AC Adapter plugs
  • Camera Memory cards Camera Charger
  • Headphones/Earbuds (if wireless need adapter for the plane)
