The Grumpy Retiree

Athens

We started our Greece itinerary in Athens for 3 days by seeing the highlights in the Birthplace of Democracy. There are too many people and everything is in ruins in Athens!

Crete

Off to Chania on the Greek island of Crete to spend our last 5 nights before returning to the USA.

Chania Waterfront

I’ve been amazed by the beauty of Crete. Slightly less Grumpy now.

The Grumpy Retiree

Every once in a while you travel to a place that surprises you. Crete was that place for me. The beaches and aqua seas, snow capped mountains, great food and friendly people, century old olive trees. But it was the intoxicating smell of orange blossoms on the orange trees I will never forget.

I will never forget the intoxicating aroma of the orange blossoms blooming on the orange trees in Crete.

Olive Tree estimated between 3000-5000 years old!

We ended our Italy and Greece trip in Crete, which was a great sendoff to our journey. Our return travel to the US started at 4AM and lasted about 24 hours. 10 hotels, 5 planes, 7 trains, 2 rental cars, a few buses and taxis, 2 ferries and countless memories. It was a good trip.
